Home Inspection Found Signs of Water Damage Under Floors, in Walls or on Ceilings & More in Texas City, TX

There is nothing quite as devastating as having your home fall victim to significant water damage. It can be expensive to repair, as well as pose a risk to your health if the water has sat for a period of time that allows mold and mildew to begin to grow. It is wise to know what the signs of water damage entail so that you can be on the lookout regularly. JMark Inspections is here to walk you through some of the things you should be looking for in your home.

How to Spot Water Damage in a House

Signs of water damage in your home can be obvious or subtle. Some of the most obvious signs include water rings on the walls or ceilings of your home. You may also notice there are places in your flooring that are warped, cracked or even soft because there has been significant water in those areas. This usually happens in places like the bathroom and kitchen. You should also be looking for discoloration around cabinets and sinks as this can be a sign. One thing you should never ignore in a home is the musty smell that accompanies mold and mildew. This is a sure sign there is water somewhere that is causing an issue.

Signs of Water Damage on Outside of House

When an inspector takes a look at a home from the outside, they will be checking the slope of the land around the foundation. If the slope isn’t enough to keep rainwater away from your home, it could cause issues with water pooling around the foundation. The rainspouts and gutters around the home should also be checked to make sure they are doing their job to move water away from the foundation. Another area that should be watched is the roof for any missing or damaged shingles.

Attic Water Damage

Most of the time, if there is water leaking into the attic, it is coming from somewhere on the roof. This can be around a chimney, roof vents or any shingles that have sustained damage or are missing. Water in the attic leads to mold on the insulation which will have to be replaced entirely. You shouldn’t be able to walk into your attic and see sunlight anywhere.
