How Long Does a Home Inspection Take in Willis, TX? Size & Age of House, Location of Property & More

Most people that are in the process of buying or selling a home know how important it is to have the home inspected. If you are financing your home, you more than likely can’t get the financing you want without an inspection. As you get ready to have the home inspected whether it’s for the seller as a pre-listing inspection or the buyer before the closing, you may be wondering how long an inspection will take. Just like anything else, it depends on several factors. JMark Inspections is here to talk about different factors that can have an effect on how long a home inspection will take to complete.

Size of the House & Property

The biggest factor that comes into play during a home inspection and how long it will last is the size of the property that is being inspected. If you live in a small home, you wouldn’t expect the inspection to last nearly as long as a large home on a large piece of property. Another aspect of a home that can affect the length of the inspection is whether or not the property has an attic or a basement. Those homes that have these two things will prolong the time it takes to complete the home inspection.

Location of Real Estate Property

Believe it or not, the location of your property also plays a role in how long an inspection will last. If you live in an area that experiences a drier climate, it will be easier to inspect that a home in humid conditions. Likewise, if your live in an area that sees many severe storms and weather throughout the year, they often tend to take longer to inspect because there are so many considerations that have to be made. Any locations that are prone to flooding, tornadoes, hurricanes or wildfires will take a bit longer to inspect. If there are storm shelters or crawlspaces, these extra spaces equal added time as well.

Age of House

If you live in an old house, over 50 years old, there are surely going to be more tests that need to happen during the home inspection. Many of these tests include the foundation to ensure that the house is on solid ground with the structural support it needs to be safe. The paint needs to be considered for lead. The electrical wiring needs a thorough inspection to make sure it is safe. Any potential buyer is going to want to have all those things looked at to make sure they aren’t getting in over their heads when they buy the home.
